For many years I was one of those guys who never used aftershave. I’d always ask myself, “What’s the point?” Thinking it was nothing more than just another product for Gillette to sell, I never really went about buying any. However, I started slow with some cheapo brands. Over time, I noticed how it acts as a quick repair to the trauma skin goes under when its shaved. Some are better than others, obviously, but one stands alone. That one aftershave, you ask? Portland General Store’s Sea Mineral Aftershave Splash. It’s one of their best-sellers, and for good reason.

This aftershave is the Rolls Royce of aftershaves, without the pretense behind it. You won’t find Rich Uncle Pennybags buying up heaps of this aftershave as a status symbol, because it’s anything but that. Portland General Store has a great line of products, all of which I recommend, but it’s not because of their name but their substance and ingredients. This aftershave has kelp, dead sea salt, algae, and aloe in it, just to name a few. It’s basically its own ecosystem in there.

The scent is fantastic and is what I imagine a worker on a British 1800 shipping vessel would smell like. Portland General Store describes the scent as a “yachtsman relaxing below deck at the end of a long day on the wild ocean, a favorite Scotch in hand.” Manly, and awesome.

Additionally, the aftershave is one of the best I’ve ever used as far as immediate repair goes. When you shave your face you will dry it out–no matter what. The key is to repair the damage quickly before you get cracked, over-oily, or bumpy skin. This aftershave will combat razor burn and moisturize your face while it does its thing.

As I mentioned before, this is one of the better aftershaves on the market, and it is a great member of the already-fantastic Portland General Store line.

Have you used  this aftershave before? Do you wish your aftershave made you smell like a sailor? Let’s talk in the comments below.
