Fats Domino

“Blue Monday”

Fats Domino is one of the happiest bluesmen of all time, as shown by his ear-to-ear smile in nearly every video and photograph taken of his performances. Domino’s effortless skill and vocal rhythms are truly legendary, particularly in his hometown of New Orleans.

Fats Domino enjoyed huge success when he was younger, and that success paid dividends in the form of reputation into his older age. While Domino never made a massive amount of money (compared to modern pop stars), he made enough to live in a large house in the Ninth Ward and drive his famed pink Cadillac around town, which, paired with his perpetual grin, truly made him an icon in a music-dominated city.

Domino was in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina, which was rumored to be the cause of his death after someone spray painted “RIP Fats. You will be missed” on his home. The rumor of his death spread among the news, only to have Fats come back into the light and reveal he was still alive. However, Katrina ruined his home and all his possessions, along with many people in New Orleans. After Katrina, Fats was one of the biggest supporters of the relief effort, dedicating his infectious spirit and toe-tapping music to the fundraising cause to rebuild his city.

Domino is still alive today, after getting inducted into the Hit Parade Hall of Fame and the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame.
