Bill Monroe

“Uncle Pen”

You may remember Bill Monroe from the article regarding his 100th birthday. Due to his influence, I found it only fitting that he should also receive a dedication in this segment as well.

Bill Monroe is a legend in the bluegrass and folk music world, as well as around anyone who has ever played a mandolin.

Often referred to as the “father of bluegrass,” he enjoyed massive success during his lifetime.

More modern artists such as Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings are just a couple of his folk pupils who attained a similar level of notoriety.

Greatly acclaimed as one of the greatest songwriters of all time, Monroe was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, and the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Honor.
