Kraken-Black-Spiced-Rum

Sometimes, you just feel like a pirate. You know, typical Wednesday, out plundering and looting, and what better way to end your day than with some rum. But you’re not just any pirate, you’re a pirate of discerning taste–so you want something other than a light run-of-the-mill rum. So what do you do? You turn to something dark and spicy–like the Kraken Black Spiced Rum.

Or, you know, you’re just a normal dude who is looking for a better version of the Cuba Libre after a day at work. I’m certainly no rum expert, but I know what’s good and what’s not, and the Kraken is delicious and awesome in so many ways. Not only is the bottle’s unique shape and label something I was instantly drawn to, but what’s inside is even better. Unscrew the top and you’ll find a delicious blend of vanilla, cinnamon, and ginger. The rum itself is made locally in Trinidad and Tobago from nearby sugar canes, and is aged up to two years with a secret blend of 11 spices. This rum is no-joke-delicious, and it works in so many ways.

Since it doesn’t get much better than rum and coke, you can always take that traditional route. However, since you’re trying a unique rum, try what I’ve dubbed:

The Salty Sailor

Three parts dark soda
One part Kraken Black Spiced Rum
A squirt of lemon juice to prevent skurvy
Lightly salt the rim of your glass, and enjoy the high seas.

This rum is best kept to simple mixes, because the spice in the rum is really powerful. Don’t go nuts and start adding more spice to it–just a touch of salt and you’re rocking (it’s not a margarita, don’t go nuts). Whether you’re looking for a new rum to try, or you just want to add a special rum to your collection, the Kraken Black Spiced Rum is awesome. If you’re not already pillaging on Wednesday nights, you will be soon.
